Two ISIS Members Arrested East of Salah al-Din

A force from the Rapid Response Division managed to arrest two members of the ISIS terrorist organization in the village of Ghamas, east of Salah al-Din province.

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced on Friday (March 21, 2025) that the operation was carried out in coordination with the Rapid Response Intelligence Department, noting that the “terrorists” were handed over to the competent authorities in accordance with legal procedures to complete further legal actions.

This development follows an armed clash last Wednesday between the Iraqi army and an ISIS cell composed of four members in the eastern Salah al-Din operations sector.

Kawa Sheikhani, an advisor to the governor of Salah al-Din, told Rudaw Media Network that the militants fell into an ambush set by the Iraqi army on the road linking the districts of Kifri (part of Sulaymaniyah province) and Tuz Khurmatu (part of Salah al-Din province), where one of the militants detonated himself during the confrontation.

Later, the Security Media Cell announced that a force from the Second Battalion, Brigade 88, in coordination with detachments from the Military Intelligence Directorate, was able to “eliminate a four-member ISIS cell” after precise intelligence tracking and setting up a well-planned ambush in the Balkana area within the Tuz Khurmatu operations sector.

The statement from the Security Media Cell indicated that “direct losses were inflicted on this terrorist group, with two of its members killed—one of whom was a suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt—while the other two were injured.” The statement added that security units continue search operations in the area, supported by military intelligence drones.

The Security Media Cell affirmed that security forces are achieving “significant milestones in pursuing ISIS remnants, who attempt to assert their presence through limited and desperate operations, especially with the approaching end of the holy month of Ramadan.”
