MP Yasser Iskandar confirmed on Sunday that the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) Service and Retirement Law is directly linked to a political decision and the level of consensus on its approval within Parliament. He pointed out that the law would grant PMF personnel service and retirement rights similar to those of other security agencies.
In a statement followed by Baghdad Network, Iskandar said, “Everyone is waiting for a political decision from the parties involved in the political process regarding the PMF Service and Retirement Law after completing all the necessary requirements within the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee.”
He added that, “If the Council of Ministers approves and votes on the law in one of its sessions, it will then be referred to the Parliament for reading, discussion, and voting before it officially comes into effect upon its publication in the official gazette.”
He explained that, “The law would ensure that PMF officers and personnel receive service and retirement benefits similar to those in other security institutions. For instance, those who have served 15 years or more would be eligible for retirement. Additionally, the law will adjust salary structures between officers and ranks, ensuring that everyone receives their legally and administratively entitled rights.”
