Meeting Led by Al-Sudani: Measures for Electricity During Ramadan and Summer, and Billing System

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired a meeting of the electricity sector team to review the measures taken for implementing the summer 2025 plan, along with discussions on the billing system and digital transformation across all branches of the sector.

According to a statement from Al-Sudani’s office on Sunday, the meeting included a review of the emergency plan prepared for the upcoming summer, assessing the needs of the production and distribution sectors, as well as the expected completion of new electricity projects. Discussions also covered the billing system, examining its technical and field aspects.

Al-Sudani directed the Ministry of Electricity to take technical measures to improve electricity services during Ramadan. He also ordered an additional fuel quota for private generators to extend power supply hours, considering the needs of citizens during Iftar and Suhoor times.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the billing system as a means to ensure the state’s ability to sustain energy production. He stressed the need to eliminate negative practices in meter installations and instructed investigations into suspected corruption in certain areas, particularly regarding illegal exemptions granted to commercial and industrial centers.

The meeting also addressed maintenance plans, with discussions on the Ministry of Electricity’s strategy for servicing power plants, generating units, and transmission lines across Iraq. Financial allocations for maintenance were reviewed, with a focus on completing repairs before peak demand season.

Additionally, discussions covered the supply of gas oil for power plants, including required quantities, transport logistics, and technical details to maintain a stable electricity supply. The meeting also examined floating platform projects, execution mechanisms, available capacities, and the amount of electricity they would contribute.
